West Point Mint Quarters

The W Mintmark that graces the coins in this set has always had a sense of numismatic prestige for collectors. Right from the start with its first ever appearance on the 1984 Olympics Ten Dollar Commemorative, this letter appearing on coins has signified an importance in modern coinage not yet seen from any other faciility.

The Mint itself sits in close proximity to the United States Military Academy. This location is advantageous and was established back in 1937 as a bullion depository. The Academy itself was founded in 1802 during the time of President Thomas Jefferson, following on a continuous military occupation of the area since the days of the Contintenal Army in 1778.
