About Standing Liberty Quarters
A short yet beloved series, the Standing Liberty Quarters are among the most challenging to collect for the denomination as a whole. The type illustrates the grace of the renaissance of American coinage design that had been initiated by President Theodore Roosevelt. Along with its companion Winged Liberty Dime and Walking Liberty Half Dollar, the Standing Liberty Quarter is heralded as one of the finest coin designs of the 20th century.

After twenty-five years of use, the preceding Barber design was retired as a result of Mint workers misreading a law passed in 1890. That law allowed for coins to be redesigned without approval from Congress but did not forcibly mandate any changes. The misinterpretation did, however, cause for artists across the country to redesign the three minor silver denominations, the first of which was Victor David Brenner who had recently designed the Lincoln Cent. Although his designs were rejected, his effort was the foundation for other artists to follow suit.
