About Switzerland

Sitting in the center of Western Europe, the landlocked nation of Switzerland has been a site for human habitation for over 150,000 years. The country and its people have experienced the history of Europe in a unique way that helped establish their modern identity.

Archaeological evidence puts some of the earliest farming communities at 5300 BC. Various cultures rose and fell and it wasn’t until the coming of the Romans under Emperor Tiberius in 15 BC that the Swiss Plateau was conquered by a foreign power. For the next few centuries, the economy prospered and grew.
