Coins of Puerto Rico

Seated amidst the island chain stretching from the Florida coast to the northeast shore of South America, the isle of Puerto Rico has enchanted the likes of indigineous folks, European explorers, and a multitude of cultures for millennia.

The island was first settled by the Otoiroid peoples some 2,000 to 4,000 years ago. Their occupation was joined by the Saladoid and Taino tribes. Their cultures thrived in the tropical environment until the advent of the Age of Discovery. The Taino tribes gifted the island the name of Boriken which is still in use by natives today.
