About Australia 3 Pence
The Silver Three Pence is the smallest of Australia’s circulating coins. It was based on the British Silver 3 Pence and bore the effigy of the contemporary ruling monarch. The likenesses of Edward VII, George V, George VI, and Elizabeth II have been portrayed on the tiny coin. The three pence was struck in 0.925 silver until 1944 after which point it was made in 0.500 silver. Mints producing the coin include London, Melbourne, and Sydney, with additional strikes made by the Denver and San Francisco Mints of the United States during World War II.
